Our Story
Tech Spot is a technology help center at the Renaissance Center in downtown Skowhegan available to the public for assistance on how to use computers, other devices and software programs. The unique collaborative is run by local students and volunteers with the main goal of allowing students to become the teachers in an multigenerational environment by giving them the opportunity to share their knowledge of technology with the community.
Ron Bonnevie, 21st CCLC Grant Director in collaboration with the Somerset Economic Development Corporation, founded Tech Spot in 2012. Our hope is that the Tech Spot help center concept will spread to all parts of the state and beyond, utilizing public libraries or other public spaces with access to technology to provide no cost technology tutoring. This place-based learning approach matches well with anywhere anytime learning, where students are placed in leadership roles.
